I watched Obama's speech at the Pentagon on 9-11. As I watched him, I was struck with the thought of his humanity as a person like any of us and yet was gripped with the awesomeness of the position of authority he holds in this country at this time in history. And then I found myself praying for him... sincerely praying for him.
Later, as I pondered different items of information and news that circulates Facebook and as I thought of our national authority figure right now, a string of verses from Scripture came to mind, reminding me not only of the importance to sincerely pray for our national leader and individually seek the face of God, but also of the importance Israel has in the heart of God.
"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
(Ephesians 6:12 ASV)
"I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men; for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth."
(1 Timothy 2:1-4 ASV)
"If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
(2 Chronicles 7:14 ASV)
"The king’s heart is in the hand of Jehovah as the watercourses: He turneth it whithersoever he will." (Proverbs 21:1 ASV)
"...And He made of one every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed seasons, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek God, if haply they might feel after Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us..."
(Acts 17:26-27 ASV)
"When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, When He separated the children of men, He set the bounds of the peoples According to the number of the children of Israel."
(Deuteronomy 32:8 ASV)
